In Repair

In Repair
by John Mayer

Too many shadows in my room
Too many hours in this midnight
Too many corners in my mind
So much to do to set my heart right

Oh, it's taking so long
I could be wrong, I could be ready
Oh but if I take my heart's advice
I should assume it's still unsteady
I am in repair, I am in repair

Stood on the corner for a while
To wait for the wind to blow down on me
Hoping it takes with it my old ways
And brings some brand new luck upon me

Oh, it's taking so long
I could be wrong, I could be ready
Oh but if I take my heart's advice
I should assume it's still unsteady
I am in repair, I am in repair

And now I'm walking in the park
And all of the birds, they dance below me
Maybe when things turn green again
It will be good to say you know me

Oh, it's taking so long
I could be wrong, I could be ready
Oh but if I take my heart's advice
I should assume it's still unready
Oh, yeah, I'm never really ready
Oh, I'm never really ready

I'm in repair
I'm not together but I'm getting there
I'm in repair
I'm not together but I'm getting there...

Re: In Repair

SIR BassReeves:

How apropos is this song to my recent situation?
A great song written and performed by the great John Mayer.
I won't be "In Repair" for too long a time period; my mind does a great
job of performing maintenance on my heart. :D

Thanks SIR Bass,

Under-Sir CK

Re: In Repair

Sir CK,

I was thinking of a response to your post, and thinking about your recent experience, the lyrics to that song just came to me.

Your heart has a very capable mechanic. I think all you need is a good tune-up, and you'll be good to go! :)

Re: In Repair

Bass...

Thanks for posting the lyrics to In Repair.

My kids introduced me to John Mayer’s music years ago; what a talented songwriter he is.

My eldest son proposed to my daughter-in-law at a Mayer concert, and my granddaughter is named after one of his songs. Ain’t love grand?

My favorite is You’re Gonna Live Forever In Me. First time I heard it I was very much reminded of Frost’s Nothing Gold Can Stay.

“Life is full of sweet mistakes
and love’s an honest one we make,
Time leaves no fruit on the tree...
but you’re gonna live forever in me...”

What a poet.

Re: In Repair

HG,

Yes, Mayer is an amazing songwriter and poet. His album "Continuum" is one of my all-time favorites. I like every song on the album, which is rare for me.

I also like his follow-up live album "Where The Light Is". His cover of Hendrix's "Bold As Love" is killer. His guitar playing is phenomenal. The dude can really play some blues!

It's cool that your family has so much history with his music. When I was just a kid, my cousins and I were really into the Jackson 5. We even learned their dance steps and sang their songs. I was usually the bass player, Jermaine, of course. I think that was when I first developed a passion for singing. We often attended their concerts. I even had a chance to meet them backstage with my cousins, but unfortunately I had wandered off.

Now, I'm just waiting for Mayer to drop "Continnum 2".
