We live in very strange economic times....When I ask this question of friends, colleagues and relatives I get a range of responses. Some are doing better than before, others as well as before the credit crunch but many are finding it very hard to cope.

How is it for you? Is the recession helping you re-think getting into debt? Did you do any cutbacks in your expenditure?

I am lucky because the recession has not affected me. I took early retirement 2 years ago with a full pension and now have a part time job that I really enjoy so I am happier and better off financially than when I was working full time. I have never been a saver because I believe in enjoying life to the full and going on holidays as much as I can, so the reduced values in the investment markets has not affected me.
I do sympathise with those who have been bady affected but if they have a good quality of life, money is not so important!
The recession has affected each of my three careers. The first, as a family entertainer was hit during 9/11, then took a hit during the DC sniper attacks and has slowed steadily until it finally started to show a glimmer of recovery last year.
This year has improved as well, but the entertainment industry may never be the land of plenty that it used to be. I've experienced steady growth in tutoring clientele, probably because parents want to help their children become flexible and educated enough to weather recessions well! I started a home daycare last year and it has also steadily grown. Am I comfortable yet? Not quite, but I know I can work through this.
Hello Emma:
If you grow up with little but have a happy family and childhood you
learn how to get through the tough times.
So I guess I can thank my parents as I'm in a comfortable position
to-day.
You learn something every day and if you put what you learn to work
hopefully there win't be any problems.
WATCH OUT FOR THE GOVERNMENT THOUGH.
( there still trying to learn whats going on.. )
Recession has hit me pretty bad. I have to work 2 jobs just to keep up with finances. Sometimes I'm thinking of getting payday loans. I don't know if that's any good... Any thoughts?... I know I can pay up on my payday, but is it worth it? Any experience using it?
I live in Hawaii the prices here are high , the groceries are high due to the shipping cost.
But we pay for Paradise the weather and the beaches are gorgeous. The mainland has its positives as well, I lived there as well. I agree quality of life so important. Money is not everything but it does help. I have given so much of my time and my life to care for others and has been such a rewarding experience. My thoughts are that the more we give the more strength and happiness and days we are given back which is worth more to me. I am so blessed and thankful for each and everyday.
There's a recession?

They say Canada is either in one or headed for one or something. Doesn't bother me.  If I can't afford it, I don't buy it. If it's not on sale,  I don't buy it unless it's a food item and everything else I bought was on sale and I'm treating myself.
I live in Venezuela, the country with the highest inflation of the word, exchange control, food scarcity, the worst economy, corruption and insecurity. You pay an amount for a bred in the morning and the next day has increased twice its value, is not easy. We survive here...some of us....
